Characteristics and aims

The course aims to explore the different solutions that combine the traditional Flash development environment and server-side technologies.

It is a course designed for those with advanced knowledge of Action Script. Flash 5, just like an HTML page, can converse with ease with all the most common web management and data storage systems.

Participants will look at how Flash can be integrated with the principal server-side scripting languages such as ASP, PHP and dedicated software such as Cold Fusion and Dreamweaver UltraDev.

Using databases such as Microsoft Access it will be possible to activate complex search systems, registration forms, passwords and mailing list enrolments.

Part of the course will be dedicated to object programming using Action Script introducing an analysis of the advantages offered by XML language.

A lot of attention will also be given to the designing and production of dynamic templates and their activation using Macromedia Generator and ASP Flash Turbine, whose most important applications will also be studied.

The course will also look at the main problems arising from Web Server use. Finally, focus will turn to client-side solutions made available by the combined use of Flash and Java Script.

  • Introduction to Web Server and Database use.
  • Use of main IIS (Internet Information Server) functions.
  • Use of main Microsoft Access functions.
  • Use of dynamic templates in Flash 5.
  • Production of dynamic templates with Macromedia Generator.
  • Production of dynamic templates with ASP Flash Turbine.
  • Object planning with Action Script.
  • Study of logic of object planning.
  • Reading and writing in XML format using Action Script.
  • How to integrate flash and server-side environments/languages:
    • Flash and Cold fusion 
    • Flash and Dreamweaver UltraDev
    • Flash and PHP
    • Flash and ASP.Flash and JavaScript: study of JavaScript methods aimed at integrating the two client-side development environments.
